ExtremeTech picks 2004 to a year for dramatic improvements in computer hardware. Changes include the introduction of Intel’s Pentium 4 Prescott chip with a new pin layout and new motherboard and case designs that support PCI Express slots, Serial ATA-II, and DDR-II memory. Another key change will be the introduction of dual-layer optical media and blue laser optical disc technology, the later supporting high-definition video.

With all these changes, ExtremeTech provides suggestions on upgrade paths.

CHANUKAH Bush: Instead of a Christmas tree, many Jewish families have a Chanukah bush and exchange gifts on each of the eight nights of the holiday.
