Looking At The Wrong Picture

Can the UN satellite take pictures of the Israelis who would have been killed or maimed if the security fence between Israel and the Palestinians were not being built?

I don’t think so.

Another idiotic editorial from The Guardian

Peter Preston urges Israel to dismantle its undeclared nuclear weapons and argues Israel has no need for them:

Yemen, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt? Nothing to say, nothing to show. You can, if you wish, be concerned about Syria's chemical weapons facilities - and you can reasonably worry about a nuclear Iran, even though Tehran took a decisive step back towards international acceptability last week.

Maybe he should check the Federation of American Scientists that he mentioned earlier when discussing Israel.

The Federation of American Scientists states:

Egypt was the first country in the Middle East to obtain chemical weapons training, indoctrination, and matériel. Egyptian interest in chemical weapons may have been prompted by Israel's construction of the Dimona nuclear reactor in 1958. Chemical weapons are part of the Egyptian army's standard issue. While the size of its arsenal is not known, some estimates suggest that it may be similar to that of Iraq prior to the Gulf War.

It has been suggested, with some plausibility, that chemical agent warheads have been developed for the "Condor" missile project, which was abandoned, and for the Scud-C missile, which is operational.

As for the Iranian moves, the US State Department's Bureau of Arms Control and International Security personal certainly doesn't think much of them.

As Jews call it - Thursday

The New York Times reports on the practice of many Jews of working on Christmas to make up for not working on Jewish High Holidays.

What is the Toronto Star thinking?

In an editorial on Israeli Prime Minster Ariel Sharon’s plan for a disengamenet from the Palestinians it writes:

Yet despite the current bleak landscape, 2003 has not been an utter write-off, and 2004 could be better.

Sharon had his cabinet vote in May to endorse a Palestinian state with "territorial contiguity" and "economic viability," and is now prepared to abandon settlements.

On the other side, Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat and his cronies have been replaced by figures who want to end the slaughter.

Arafat has been replaced, by whom? A puppet Prime Minister?

On December 20th I received a email from the 2.6 Linux Kernel Pool that my entry of "Tue Mar 5 05:00:00 2002" received a ranking of 1303 out of 2558 total entries.

Like over 95% of all guesses it was overly optimistic, the first official 2.6 Linux Kernel was released on December 18, 2003 at 03:04 UTC.

The winner of the pool, Steve Ratcliffe was off by about 15hours. Some other statistics they provided:

  • Most optimistic guess: 2001-01-05 19:36:18-07 by Bill Segall
  • Most guessed day: 2001-09-08 and 2002-03-14 (18 guesses each)
  • Most guessed month: 2001-12 (164 guesses)

The 2.8 Kernel Pool is now available online.

I wonder what excuse movie pirates will use to justify downloading illegal copies of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King rather than going to see it at a theatre or waiting until it comes out on DVD or video?

Like people pirating Quake 3 it’s not like they aren’t getting value for their money if they were to pay for their entertainment.
