Robert Fincher: "What I like about this is its simplicity..."

No, silly - he's talking about "Bad Mans Soup" with a recipe included...

Microsoft sweeps out Hotmail accounts. People using the free e-mail service are seeing their folders and in-boxes cleaned out as their junk-mail folders fill with pitches for a paid version of Hotmail. [CNET News.com]

I recently signed up for Hotmail, only because I wanted to try out their IM.  What a joke!  Latter on the same day I set up the account, there were a dozen junk mails from various return addresses received.  My Hotmail address was never published on any of my sites.  After not checking it for about a week, I found dozens of SPAMS in my "bulk-mail" box plus several messages from Hotmail saying I would have to pay to continue using their email because of my "high usage."  Frankly, I thought it was a scam and requested that they delete my account - never heard back and never checked it again.  But I'm willing to bet I've made it to their prime leads list.

Their letting in all that junk, and even routing it to a special box because they know it's junk, tells me they love SPAM.  It's a friggin' sales tool.  If large "providers" like MS don't fight SPAM, what kind of chance do we have of ever being free of the biggest annoyance on the web?  SPAM is big business.  I have nothing against them wanting to charge for certain services - it's just the sleazy tactics that I can't stand.  Thanks... I feel much better now.

The next design I'll be working on will be a CSS version with no tables, but with a calendar.  In order to pull this off, I need a copy of the macro that draws the calendar.  I've started a discussion at radio.userland and I'm hoping someone will come up with what I'm looking for...

UPDATE:  Thanks to Lawrence Lee, I have the answer...

Russ Lipton has provided some documentation on How To Download and Swap Themes, using my new theme as an example.  It may be useful to you if this is all new to you (as it is to me)...

The new theme has already been improved (or should I say corrected).  If you downloaded the theme earlier today (before 12:15pm EST), please download the newer version and accept my apology for any inconvenience.  Feel free to get in touch if needed.  Click here to send an email to the editor of this weblog.

This morning's food for thought...
Russ Lipton: "Documentation, like software, is buggy."

Tim Jarrett: "On the minus side, I think it's broken again on NS 4.x."

Paul Boutin: "Bloggers vs Journos is easily the most entertaining show on the Web - it's less like the Super Bowl, more like the weekly running gags between two sitcom characters who can't admit they've got the hots for one another." [via Scripting News]

Will Leshner:  "A weblog where many people post is a forum..."
