Yahoo! Widens Data Sharing Options. In a privacy policy update, the Web portal assumes new rights to share personal information, and will require users to opt-out of marketing mailings. [internetnews.com: Top News]
At the same time it changed its privacy policies, Yahoo! also said it "reset" users' marketing preferences -- meaning that unless they visit the page and unselect its checkboxes, they could begin to receive promotional mailings beginning in May.Nice! They're getting away with undoing the users' original preferences, so the users are now opted-in by default (even though they had already previously specified that they don't want to opt-in) and then must do something to opt-out. Just another case of the BigCo's support of SPAM. They make their money by constantly playing tricks on their users!
