U.S. Peacekeepers Given Year's Immunity From New Court. The Security Council on Friday voted to give American peacekeepers a year's exemption from prosecution by the International Criminal Court. By Serge Schmemann. [New York Times: International] I must say that I agree with the Canadian ambassador to the UN when he says that this was 'a sad day for the United Nations'. What will happen in a year's time when the question of renewing the exemption comes up? Will we experience the same charade as over the last few weeks? The conduct and attitude of the US in this matter is nothing short of scandalous, and the not-so-veiled threat from their UN ambassador about 'serious consequences' if the International Court ever charges a US citizen is disgusting. 4:57:24 PM  Your view
