OT: England v Argentina It's a very big World Cup game for England tomorrow, lots of history between the two teams on and off the pitch, so don't expect many communications till the evening (if then!) The pubs will be full at 12.30 and the whole of England will literally stop. Come on England!

SHA1 Secure Hash for Flash Branden Hall has released a version of the SHA1 hash as an object-oriented actionscript library (based on a previous javascript version.) Very useful for a bit of security, and as Branden mentions elsewhere it's probably enough to ward off a large percentage of script kiddies.

Macromedia Presentation Uses New Server Technology Commenting on the Macromedia MX presentation mentioned earlier, Jeremy Allaire remarked - "This is built on a beta of a new communcations server technology that enables long-form streaming video, and uses a separate port and protocol." Nice to see a slick demo of this forthcoming product (hopefully the buffering behavour is built in.) Theres been some talk of firewall problems from some users but this is the same with all streaming tech, it just needs the IT gods to open another port (if they can be persuaded, it may need a few sacrifices or at least some offerings ;)

Nielsen + Macromedia, sitting in a tree... Mr "Flash 99% Bad" has joined forces with Macromedia to make best practices document for rich internet apps in Flash. Excellent coverage from Jarle of the story with links to the announcement and reactions. Nielsen is knowledgable and it will be nice to see his ideas but it's a pity he has to be so grating, somtimes it's not enough just to be right...

Quicktime 6 Public Preview Seems like Apple have nearly solved the MPEG 4 licensing problems as they've put the next version of Quicktime up for public consumption. Flash 5 support this time which is cool, but it'll be interesting to see how the introduction of video capabilities into MX affects the whole Quicktime/Flash relationship (not to mention the Sorenson lawsuit.)

Macromedia MX Executive Presentation What better way to demonstrate the power of the MX products than produce a presentation with the MX suite. This is a very impressive demo of the power of Flash MX, especially the video integration.
