FFNYC: Macromedia Keynote Some notes on the Macromedia keynote from Mesh. Could you have anyone more cool/apt than Douglas Englebart popping up on your video conferencing application? I think not :) I have a feeling that the ubiquity of Flash + cheap broadband + cheap webcams could actually cause video conferencing to take off like never before, maybe get us back on track for the 'long-promised in sci-fi films' videophone.

SWF Compression from Ideaworks3D/ElectricRain Flash Magazine has an article on a new tool that could be very useful, especially in banner ad production. Optimaze cuts down .swf file size by simplifying and compressing vector graphics within the file - it works on Flash 3,4,5 and MX and you can allegedly gain up to 30-40% file size reduction. Having built more than a few Flash ads in my time this this could be a great way of automating something you previously had to do by hand with judicious use of the 'Optimize' tool.

FFNYC Update Mesh is doing a stand up job of covering the conference, check out his continuing coverage. To see what all the flash gurus look like in the flesh visit EricD and his FFNYC Photos.
