Someone attempted to assassinate two Democratic Senators last year. The right-wing Attorney General has made no progress finding the perpetrators, and every indication is that the investigation is a cover-up: the FBI ordered critical evidence destroyed, the FBI has played at chasing Hatfield to the point of leaking false information.

Two years ago, a Democratic Senator facing re-election was killed in a plane crash. As a dead man, he beat his opponent, the right-wing religious nut who was appointed Attorney General.

Now another Senator has been killed in a plane crash. While CNN headquarters tried to call it a weather-related accident, the (former?) CNN reporter at the scene twice insisted there was no evidence that weather was a factor in the crash -- before she disappeared.

The difference between the deaths of the Senators? Carnahan was killed too late to be taken off the ballot, and his wife was able to fill his position for two years. Whereas Wellstone was killed one day before he would have been left on the ballot, and his wife was killed at the same time.

The latest news on the anthrax attacks is about the level of sophistication required, and the distinct sets of expertise required. In other words, it's easier to explain the evidence if a team was involved in manufacturing the anthrax.

If you have the money and resources to make the most sophisticated anthrax attack, can you rig a plane crash? Yes. There have been *lots* of known plane-crash assassinations, and many crashes that seem suspicious -- why do only Democratic Senators die in plane crashes, for example?

There should be a thorough investigation. Until proven otherwise, the investigation should include tracking down evidence of assassination.

Why isn't this considered part of the terrorism investigations? Only days ago, Senators were warned not to play golf in DC because of potential Al Qaida attacks. If Senators are potential Al Qaida targets, then Wellstone's death should have been immediately investigated with that in mind. Either that or the warnings from the Attorney General were known to be false, right?

Finally, Al Qaida has a stake in Bush gaining control of Congress. The more power Bush has, the more he will provoke the Arab/Islamic world to side with Al Qaida. There are also plenty of crooks with motive to whack Wellstone. Just one example: hundreds of millions of dollars were stolen from Native Americans through the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Wellstone was pushing the investigation.

Considering the FBI's record with recent assassination attempts on Democratic Senators, I'd suggest that the Democrats arrange for their own investigation in parallel.
