"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Dirt, dirt, dirt. Now Condi Rice is caught ordering the NSA to spy on UN Security Council members. Ha ha. *That's* good public relations.

The German ambassador to the UN couldn't remember what his wife had asked him to bring home for supper. He asked the US ambassador, who looked through his notes and said: "Chinese, but not that Kung Pao stuff again."

Meanwhile, Condi's got a new book contract. She's going to edit the next version of "Win friends and influence people".

Ha ha ha. Poor Bush's Almanac, March 1, 2003: Likely to be sunny and windy. Likely to have your *butt* kicked in Turkish parliament.

Yes! The Turks refuse to allow US troops to invade Iraq through Turkey.

It's probably a temporary victory for sanity. Once parliament there learns how badly Bush will screw them, they'll probably "come to their senses" and go along with the insane war.

Why would Turkish parliament vote against a war of conquest of an Arab nation to install democracy?

AP: "Polls show as much as 94 percent of the Muslim-dominated Turkish public opposes a war with Iraq. Before the vote, 50,000 Turks staged an anti-war rally near parliament as 4,000 police stood guard... 'We are all Iraqis'... they chanted."

Not that Bush would let the will of the people interfere with his war for Democracy and peace....

Today's news....

The US had deployed 1,700 Marines and Special Forces to the Phillipines, with more on the way. Fine. Oops. Apparently they forgot that the Phillipines has a law that American soldiers aren't allowed to fight there. You could hope that we didn't spend a lot of money to send the soldiers there before we figured this one out.

Meanwhile, it's New Moon. Usually, only pagans would care, but don't forget the US Army: This weekend is the best time to invade Iraq for the next twentyfive days. Waiting a week or two puts American lives at greater risk during the invasion.

The situation in North Korea gets scarier with every passing day. It's pretty clear Kim Jong II is taking advantage of Bush's obsession with conquering Iraq to make hay. What does that suggest about what happens when US soldiers are fighting in the streets of Baghdad? Note to Seoul residents: how about taking a vacation for the next month or so?

Apparently, there really are psychos in the White House who want to bomb and/or invade North Korea. Kristof in the New York Times claims the Dim-Bulb-in-Chief is leaning that way. There's talk of using 'little' nukes to blast the North Korean artillery before it blasts Seoul. Note to Seoul residents: how about a nice, long vacation in the Carribean or *anywhere* the hell else?

Rumors of declaring 'human shields' to be 'enemy combatants'. Ha ha. If we don't kill them with bombs, we'll put them in solitary confinement for life, without access to a lawyer. That's democracy, and we're bringing it to the Iraqis -- the ones that survive the bombing, anyway.

[queue laugh-track] General Ashcroft says the Department of 'Justice' "will spare no effort to preserve the rights of all our citizens to pledge allegiance to the American flag."

And you know when he says "spare no effort", he means "spare no effort". You gotta have priorities, damn it. The Pledge tops even cancer victims who smoke pot, and the terminally ill who want to spare themselves a few days or weeks of *hell*. Not to mention Osama Bin Laden.

It's dreary to say, of course, but just in case.... We *do* still have a right to say the Pledge. The question is whether we *require* or socially *coerce* children to say "under God". As BartCop points out, everyone of these buffoons yelling "under God" would *never* say "under Allah" -- and that's the rub. Who decides which deity? In *our* country -- ever striving for a more perfect union -- the State doesn't choose the deity. Even General Ashcroft doesn't get to choose the deity. Yet.
