"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

The propaganda is relentless.

William Safire -- unaffectionately nicknamed 'Safliar' for the obvious reason -- claims he's got evidence of French involvement with shipping chemicals for rocket fuel from China, through Syria, to Iraq.

Billy suggests the reason France doesn't want the US to conquer Iraq -- killing thousands, creating unknowable chaos, and potentially provoking a firestorm of support for anti-US terrorism -- is to cover up this particular rocket fuel transaction.

Billy's goal, of course, is to mis-direct attention about the Bush-family role in arming Saddam. We know what Saddam *had* because Poppy's got the receipts hidden away in his papers -- papers that Junior made unendingly secret in one of his early imperial decrees. Killed millions in the war with Iran? We urged him on, provided intelligence to help Saddam's offensives -- despite knowing Saddam was gassing Iranians. Saddam gassed his own people? Bush helped cover it up at the time. Saddam invaded Kuwait? Well, he had a permission slip from Poppy. Since there was more than one communication, it's implausible that it was a mistake -- Bush told Saddam to go ahead, we won't mind. It was a set-up. Look at the pay-off for Bush.

Meanwhile American rocket companies were caught giving China technology that could be used in ICBMs. The big-time Republican Campaign Contributors were sentenced a handslap with a wet noodle and a small fine payable as a soft-money donation to guess-who's re-election [sic] fund.

There's lots of dirt in Iraq. Cheney even managed to make some quick bucks off of Saddam -- side-stepping the law in a way only Andersen could love.

Yadda, yadda.

I'd like to think the New York Times column on Delma Banks helped the Supreme Court to decide to stay the execution.

Goodbye, Zoran Djindjic. You did well. Good luck, Serbia. You'll need it.
