"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

"She kept shooting Iraqi soldiers even after she had received several wounds, finally running out of ammunition. And she wants to be a kindergarten teacher? I think she's better suited for middle school." -- Robert Wright (San Jose teacher)

Robert Fisk [independent.co.uk]: "The reality, which the Americans -- and, of course, Mr Rumsfeld -- fail to understand is that under Saddam Hussein, the poor and deprived were always the Shia Muslims, the middle classes always the Sunnis, just as Saddam himself was a Sunni. So it is the Sunnis who are now suffering plunder at the hands of the Shia.

"And so the gun-fighting that broke out yesterday between property owners and looters was, in effect, a conflict between Sunni and Shia Muslims. By failing to end this violence -- by stoking ethnic hatred through their inactivity -- the Americans are now provoking a civil war in Baghdad."

I notice that in the $70+ billion to pay for the war (and bribery of the so-called coaltion of the willing), they put in a line item of $2.5 bills for the reconstruction of Iraq. But the way they're going to spend that $2.5 bills is to have the occupation force repaint some schools and install some generators. In other words, the $2.5 bills will be divided between the regular military expenses, and purchases from regular military contractors. I suppose the Vicroy's budget will come out of that, too.
