Contrition!
We're told Bush's Sunday evening chat is going to be so moving, so heart wrenching, so unifying that people are going to stop complaining about dozens of our soldiers getting killed, war, poverty, environmental destruction, and Bush himself. We're told people are going to be sorry they ever made fun of him for all the stupid things he said. ("I'm the commander.")
Gosh. We're already ready to apologize. You should see my poor parrot -- guilt-ridden at the memory of all those "chicken-hawk" squawks.
NOT!
Bush is a disaster of Shakespearian proportion -- the figure-head fuck-up of the crony-capitalist and neo-con buffoons. They may be giants in their own minds, but they've screwed up the economy for a decade, screwed up Iraq for longer, may have screwed up irretrievably with North Korea, and that's just the tip of the ice berg.
Bush is *clearly* the worst president in history. Pronouncing all the words right when he reads the speech tonight won't change anything.

Hillary Clinton says she'll hold up Bush's EPA nominee -- to put a spotlight on Bush administration orders to the EPA to cover up the adverse health effects of the destroyed World Trade Center.
This is the right thing to do. Apparently, the EPA would have warned thousands of New Yorkers to clean their dwellings thoroughly after the WTC pollution settled in lower Manhattan. The White House apparently ordered them not to.
Bush made political hay out of his miserable failure to defend America from those infamous attacks, but despite his promises, he never even put up the money for the New York City fire department to get better radios -- radios that would have saved hundreds of lives on that day.
Shame on Bush. Shame on Rove. Shame on every Republican, Republican voter, and American.
Hillary Clinton is right to take the gloves off, and start holding Bush/Rove accountable for their despicable acts.
Democratic presidential candidates in the Senate should follow suit. At least one White House official and probably several were involved in -- illegally -- exposing a CIA agent as a warning to Washington bureaucrats not to expose the White House's various cover-ups. There should be an explicit price that the White House will pay until they turn in the felons responsible -- including any co-conspirators.
*Probably* Karl Rove is the culprit. There's a country club prison cell waiting for him for seven to ten years. The Democrats should see that he keeps his reservation and has a comfortable vacation. Rove can write a book. He could call it "My struggle".
Democrats should go on the attack *now*, before Bush's fall season of terrorizing gets fully under way.
We note that it's nice for Gephardt and Kerry to speak the truth about Bush, but it's nicer still to take *action*. Clinton could have people begging her to run for president if she keeps this up. We'd say the ball's in John Kerry's court.

"This president (sic) is a miserable failure." --Dick Gephardt

Congressman David Obey sent a letter to the White House that Rumsfeld, Wolfewitz and their ilk should resign.
We say resigning's too good for 'em. Tar and feather 'em, and strap 'em to the first train out of town.

Red alert for terror alerts! Red Alert! Red Alert!
Bush's poll numbers are in freefall. 40% say he deserves to be elected. That's obviously significantly worse than when he wasn't elected the first time.
We know Bushists don't roll out new terror campaigns in August, so figure tomorrow night's address is the opening pitch of the fall campaign to terrorize America back into line.
The bad news is that there will be no way to hide Bush's miserable failures in Iraq, North Korea, and on the economy. The best Bush can hope for is to do the right things now, and maybe voters will forget all the miserable failures by the time the elections come around.
Since Bush has not only failed out of incompetence, arrogance, and wrong-headedness, but also out of greed, mission, and personality, it's very unlikely he'll fix the existing problems. That suggests that it will take catastrophic events to save Bush.
Only another major terrorist strike on US soil will get people rallying around the Bush-flag again. The scary thing is that Ashcroft has been campaigning to end more civil liberties, and the FBI just leaked scary stories about Al Qaeda attacks with biological weapons.
Be afraid.
Remember, Bush is Al Qaeda's best friend. It is in Al Qaeda's interest to do whatever it takes to get Bush elected.

Tomorrow evening while Bush is speaking to the country, Showtime will be airing its Bush September 11-athon -- a wretched propaganda movie exploiting the thousands of victims of the miserable failure's incompetence and malfeasance to aid in the cover-up of Bush's disasterous performance on that disasterous day.
At the climax of the movie, they switch from the actor Bush's speech to footage of the real miserable failure.
What a coincidence that the real miserable failure will give a speech to the nation. Isn't this just a little too much like ads for Time magazine on CNN?
