We have this saying about "shooting yourself in the foot". In Hebrew or Yiddish, or some culture with strong ties to Israel, is there a saying that goes something like "strap your leg down and cut your foot off with a chainsaw, and then cut the other one off, too"? I'm asking because of Sharon's hints about expelling Arafat, followed by hints of murdering him. Are they smoking crack in Jerusalem?

Colin Powell has the balls to show up at mass graves of people (supposedly) killed by Saddam Hussein in 1988?
Colin Powell, Rumsfeld, and a slew of the current culprits were supporting Saddam back then.
What are Iraqis supposed to think? Are they supposed to forget whose side the United States was on back then?
Is that supposed to win hearts and minds?

Oh, come on! You shouldn't hold it against Ahnold that he called people "niggers". I mean, I'm sure that was a long time ago, and I'm sure he "cannot recall". It would be unfair to hold Ahnold accountable for anything he "cannot recall".
Things Ahnold "cannot recall" include: a seven-year adulterous affair, giving at least one woman VD, sex with a minor, various other adulterous affairs without "protection" in an era of AIDS, gang bangs, backstage blowjobs, succeeding by using steroids, lying on visa applications, groping news reporters, groping co-workers, etc., etc., etc.
Maybe Ahnold's stump speech should be "Yadda, yadda".

Delaying the California recall is the right thing to do. The LA Times is wrong to oppose the delay. They should come to their senses.
If four percent of ballots are thrown out in mostly-minority precincts, and a much lower percentage are thrown out in mostly-wealthy, mostly-white precincts, that is reason to delay the election -- especially when the election may be very close.
The comic aspect is that the appeals court quoted the Scalia Five's decision about Florida in 2000. Ha ha. Good luck. The public rationalizations about Florida were completely irrelevant -- what was at issue was whether to violate state law and deny the right of all Florida voters to have their votes counted. Rather, the Scalia Five insisted that they should determine the outcome of the election, not the voters.
It will be moderately amusing to see if the Scalia Five hold together to deny the right to vote to Californians, and how they will word such a decision.
The scary thing is that the Bush cronies may view Schwarzenegger as a future candidate for president. That would explain pushing *now* for an amendment to let foreign-born citizens run for president.
Isn't this a great country? Where the son of a Nazi stormtrooper can follow in the footsteps of the grandson of Hitler's financier? You couldn't see that in Germany.

Democratic candidates should demand that Bush and Cheney tell the truth about the connection of Iraq to the infamous September 11 attacks: there was no connection.
[10:28:16 PM]
Yeah, yeah. Another day, another cover-up of The Dimwit's miserable failures. Convinced Americans to support the conquest of Iraq by boogeyman stories of (so-called) WMDs, only there weren't no stinkin' WMDs? Bury the report. Simple enough. Cook the books!
Better yet, send out Chickenhawk Dick to set the world straight: Iraq was the "geographic base" of the September 11 hijackers???????
OK. We're glad miserable failures aren't taken out and shot and dumped in the ocean, but have you ever heard a more miserable excuse for failure than that?
Now we know why Tim Russert gets the big bucks: anyone with a soul would have laughed in Cheney's face and made him write "I will not lie to the American people" five hundred times on the blackboard.

The funny thing is that Cheney comes out of his hole when Bush is in trouble. Hubris. Cheney is a disgusting man, and a vile liar. When Bush is in trouble, he should keep Cheney locked up. Cheney only ever makes things worse for Bush -- spewing transparent lies and propaganda that make it clear just how wrong the Bush policies really are.
Frankly, I loved the picture the New York Times ran -- Cheney in full sneer.
The harder they come, the harder they fall....

L. Jean Lewis should be fired immediately.
Democrats should not let crooks like Lewis have jobs in the Federal government.
[4:47:38 PM]
I've heard people call Bush and his ilk "un-American" or "America-hating". That's just silly. They love America so much they are out to steal every bit they can get away with, from our tax dollars, social security investments, to our clean air and clean water, to our civil liberties and even our good name. Never in the history of this planet have so few stolen so much from America. They love us so much they're waving our flag like crazy while they do it.

Cook the Books!
Casualties in Iraq? Cook the books.
How many US casualties have there been? We only just heard that at least 1,200 have gone through military hospitals in the DC area. Today, it finally comes out that there have been over 6,000 medical evacuations. Those 1,200 were just the most seriously wounded people.
