Startup Syringe 1.0.2

- This script allows you to change the Jaguar startup image (Apple logo) as desired. Changes: The script has now been tested with Mac OS X 10.2.1. Changed name from "BootX Patcher" to "Startup Syringe."

Mac OS X 10.2.1 now available

- It's available via Software Update but I think I'll wait a couple of days to see what early adopters have to report.

Ranchero Software: NetNewsWire Pro Features

- Ranchero Software offers a look at the planned features for the Pro version of NetNewsWire. NetNewsWire is an easy-to-use RSS news reader for web sites. I'm glad to see that a healthy dose of AppleScript support is planned.
The plan is to make the app not only scriptable but attachable, so that you can add your own commands to various parts of the user interface.

Exactly which parts is yet to be determined, but it seems likely that there would be a Scripts menu, and perhaps a way to attach commands to contextual menus and possibly the toolbar.
In related news, NetNewsWire Lite has moved into the final candidate phase of development. I expect NetNewsWire Pro to become the tool of choice, not only for those who are looking for news but also for those who provide it. I've already reserved dock space for it.

Reader Disputes AppleCare Technote about Script Editor

- The tech note stated that there was no difference in the two types of compiled script options. From Mike Harris: "From what I understand, 'Compiled Script' (initial capitals) is the script stored in the data fork. "compiled script" is the script stored as a resource in the resource fork. Virex Auto-Scan FA 1.0

- This is a simple folder action script which will use Virex to scan files added to a folder (even the desktop folder). Virex 7.x for OS X, part of the .Mac package, doesn't appear to have an option to scan folders automatically, which some users were accustomed to in OS 9. This script was written to fill the void until something better comes along.
