MacDevCenter: Developer Contest in the Works
Derrick Story: "At the end of this month, I'll be posting a detailed article discussing a series of three developer competitions managed by O'Reilly. These competitions will correspond to the next three conferences we're hosting: Emerging Technology, Open Source, and Mac OS X".
"The deadline for submission for the first competition will probably be March 28th. Spread the word on this! We want everyone to know as quickly as possible so they have time to get their entries together. Keep your eyes peeled for the rules to be posted on Friday, February 28 (corporate forces willing)."

VT user reviews: Not all are without value
While user reviews on Version Tracker can sometimes be downright juvenile, idiotic, rude, inaccurate and useless, they are at other times quite entertaining. One of the more humorous comments that I've come across comes from mondomac:
8:23:25 PM
Cocktail 1.0b5
Cocktail is a free, general purpose utility that uses AppleScript to simplify the use of advanced UNIX functions and give access to hidden Mac OS X settings. Release notes: New "Cache" tab. New button for 1000 Mbit in "Network Card" settings. New "Use the Desktop" option in Finder settings. Minor changes to user interface. Various bug fixes. New "About" window.
6:06:06 PM
BBEdit Konfabulator Glossary 1.0
BBEdit Konfabulator Glossary aids development in BBEdit of the .kon files used by Konfabulator. The package includes 93 glossary entries and 18 AppleScript scripts for optional configurations.
5:57:47 PM
Key Xing 2.6.2
Key Xing is a Mac OS X program that allows users to launch programs, files, system actions, AppleScript scripts, and URLs from the keyboard. Release notes: Added new "Activate Screensaver" system action. Fixed a problem where "filtered" hot keys would stop working. Status windows weren't showing up in the French localization.

Mac OS X Hints: Fix an error in a sample Safari AppleScript
geohar: "The Applescript 'Display Thumb-linked images' from Apple's Safari scripting page doesn't work (even on their own example page!). Here's how to get it to work." ...

Mac OS X Hints: Toggle HTML parsing in Mail with a simple AppleScript
nvdingo offers a simple AppleScript script to toggle Mail's preference for downloading HTML attachments. The script allows Mail to download HTML messages on an individual basis.

Send PDF via Eudora 1.0
Here's a script that uses the new PDF workflow feature introduced in OS X 10.2.4. The script generates a PDF of the document selected for printing, offers a dialog to rename the PDF file, and then attaches it to a new message in Eudora. The script is based largely on code poached from Apple's example.

Americans like to read. Our plastic bags have writing on them explaining how to avoid suffocation; our headache medicine recommends that it should be taken orally; our coffee cups remind us that coffee is hot. If for no one else, please include a "read me" so that American users will not feel lost. :-)Thanks for the laugh!
