QUOTE OF THE WEEK "If the founding fathers were alive today, they'd roll over in their graves." - - Gerald Ford RHINO HERE with a MOVIE TIP OF THE WEEK: I recently attended a movie screening sponsored by Amnesty International of an Australian film entitled, "Rabbit Proof Fence". Based on the real life stories of the Aborigine "Half Caste" children who, like Indigenous kids in the U.S. and Canada, were taken from their families and put in Christian Church run boarding schools, "Rabbit Proof Fence" tells the tale of 2 sisters who escape the boarding school and walk 1200 miles across the desert to get back home. Really well done & being released in theaters now. You can read about the true stories that inspired the film and view a trailer at: http://www.rabbitprooffence.com.au

I heard an informative radio interview with journalist Keith Bradsher about his new book, "High and Mighty; SUV's - The World's Most Dangerous Vehicles and How They Got That Way". What was especially interesting wasn't how SUV's are gas hogs, or that in an accident, they are dangerous to the people in the vehicles they hit. No - it was how, contrary to common wisdom, they're dangerous to the people riding in them. Bradsher, an award-winning journalist who documented the Ford-Firestone rollovers, details how a huge majority of accidents which result in the victims being paralyzed, they were riding in SUV's. A page turning history and troubling analysis of the politics and design of the SUV. Should appeal to readers on both sides of the debate. High and Mighty: SUVs

Is Nora Jones too cool for school? Her sultry tones have been warming the radio airwaves for a few months and she's now touring the world. She's been nominated for a boatload of Grammies and is destined to be this years Alicia Keyes. If you haven't heard her, you're missing something really satisfying. http://www.norahjones.com/ What most folks don't know, largely cause she's not using it as promo, is that she's the daughter of world renowned Sitar master, Ravi Shankar. http://www.ravishankar.org

An Israeli doctor says "Medicine in my country is so advanced that we can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and have him looking for work in six weeks." A German doctor says "That is nothing, we can take a lung out of one person, put it in another, and have him looking for work in four weeks." A Russian doctor says "In my country, medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have them both looking for work in two weeks." The American doctor, not to be outdone, says "You guys are way behind, we just took a man with no brain out of Texas, put him in the White House, and now half the country is looking for work."
