QUOTE OF THE DAY "A reasonable woman adapts to the World, an Unreasonable Woman makes the World adapt to her. What this World needs is more Unreasonable Women!" - - Diane Wilson http://www.unreasonablewomen.org RHINO HERE: Chalk up another one for the neo-railroad barons who for a pittance, rent the people's airwaves and for the most part, feel no responsibility to provide us with serious investigative journalism. MSNBC has cancelled the Donahue show. A source close to Donahue was quoted as saying: "It's not a coincidence that this decision comes the same week that MSNBC announces its hired Dick Armey as a commentator and has both Jesse Ventura and Michael Savage joining the network as hosts. They're scared, and they decided to take the coward's road and slant towards the conservative crowd that watch Fox News." "The Surrender Of MSNBC", 2/26/03, All Your TV.com http://www.allyourtv.com/0203season/news/02252003donahue.html CODE PINK! UNREASONABLE WOMEN OF THE EARTH UNITE!! If you're not aware of the CODE PINK peace vigil and rolling fast that's been going on in Lafayette Park in Washington DC, you need to be. Since November 17, 2002, a coalition of "prominent women and women's organizations from across the country" have been standing sentry, peering across Pennsylvania Avenue into the windows and through the walls of The White House, letting master shrub know that he is, and will be held responsible by the mothers, sisters and daughters of the world. Tag team style, these fair maidens have been standing in freezing weather, through days and nights, being taunted by nay sayers and cheered on by adoring fans. This will continue until March 8, which is "International Women's Day", and will culminate in the... Circle Round The White House - International Women's Day! SO GRAB YOUR JACKETS LADIES AND HEAD FOR LA CASA BLANCA! The following is written by creative activist, Judy Biondo Meeker, founder of the inspirational, educational, anti-war project for kids, "More Than Warmth". Anyone working with kids should check out... http://www.morethanwarmth.org "Have Hope That The Sleeping Giant Has Awakened" To a man living with such destruction in his family there is not much I can say. The pain and loss must be heart wrenching and even unbearable. And yet I wonder what Romero Dallaire would say? The UN peacekeeper to Rwanda asked for more troops, but I don't believe it was to start a war. He asked for more troops to stop one. When I think of the sanctions and continual bombing in Iraq I think about the loss and destruction that we have caused as a nation. We are not the saviors for Iraq. We have also caused many deaths, like Saddam. The estimated deaths since the beginning of the Gulf War have been 1.5 million. 500,000 children have died since the water system was knocked from our bombs, from dysentery. I remember talking to my sister from my kitchen while she was stationed in Dhahran, and telling her about that water system and how the women and children had no water. Saddam has possibly killed that many himself. I know he wiped out whole villages. I know that our soldiers bulldozed soldiers waving white flags. Both of those stories were told to me by someone who was there. I am not looking to who is most evil, or who is stronger. I would think we would want to be in the Peacekeeping arena. Do we know how to be? People protest not to keep Saddam in power, but to stop US aggression. The answers will not be given on the street, but in discussion. The protests on the streets are wanting to stop the human rights abuses. They are wanting to stop further human rights abuses. I am hoping that the mass participation on the streets begins a new era of hope. It is a time for change, for paying attention, for being active and letting our voices be heard, not only for what America is preparing to do and has done, but for worldwide social change. If the US troops can stop abuses as peacekeepers are supposed to do, then Hallelujah. However, our faith is not in the US military, as it has not shown itself to be decent, or even sane always. Our faith is not in our government, as it has not shown itself to be trustworthy. Our faith is in the people of dissent, and our faith is in the truth. With truth we can negotiate and change ourselves. Through dissent we can let our voices be heard. I have hope that the sleeping giant has awakened and that although we slept like Rumplestilskin, we will now work and hold ourselves and others accountable. Peace be upon us all. - - Judy Meeker Speaking of Unreasonable Women, THE BOTTOM LINE for this Thursday is a statement presented at the RAWA anti-war demonstration in Islamabad, Afganistan on Monday (2/24/03). RAWA is the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. With the now chronic question echoing in my psyche, "Liberation or Colonization?" these women have a lot to say and they're pulling no punches. Again the world has been plunged into a newly terrifying nightmare. The US and its allies are willing to destroy Saddam Hussain's regime- the regime with which till yesterday they were allied and which they supported in the war against Iran- and impose their own puppet government on the Iraqi people and by doing so repeat the ghastly tragedy of the Gulf War in which Saddam survived but the war caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi people. While a war against terrorism in the name of democracy is the excuse for the attack, the people of Afghanistan, at least, know well the hidden nature of these claims and excuses. First the terrorist Gulbuddin Hekmatyar was the favorite son - the recent American pronouncements against this hangman are meaningless. Then Osama and Mullah Omar occupied his place and now finally they polished the grim appearance of the "Northern Alliance", beautifying them with pantaloons and neckties, and imposed them on our people. Will America do better than this in Iraq? The Iraqi people have suffered and been pushed to the limit by the crimes of Saddam's regime but this has never meant that they ask the US and its allies to save them with military intervention. The change of government in each country is the prerogative of the people of that country, otherwise the result will be neither stable nor sustainable for the long term. The puppet regimes of Parcham and Khalq followed by the criminal Jehadi regime, the Taliban and finally the re-imposition of the Jehadis, with Karzai as the President, are all proof of this claim. Even Afghan and other children throughout the world ask why, if the US wants to destroy rulers like Saddam Hussain, has it imposed the war criminals and professional terrorists, who are worse than Saddams, in Afghanistan?
