So many islands, so little time Living in Indonesia and learning to Weblog via Radio (along with many other very random thoughts and stories).
Adding more macrosOkay, I've got the recent posts macro working, that was pretty easy. Also, I added the RSS news feeds subscription list (in Java by Jon Udell). That one was a bit harder. Don't make mistakes setting up the subs.txt web service file. If you do, it is a bear to get re-upstreamed. I finally cut it from the web services folder, pasted it on the desktop, added a new post, then pasted subs.txt back into the web services folder and deleted the post I added. Then, after a few minutes of upstreaming (I'm in Indonesia on a slow dial-up line, remember) things worked. Geographic profilingVery cool site that tries (pretty effectively) to pinpoint where you are accessing the web from. Try it. It has me in Jakarta, about three hours via train from where I actually live. But that's understandable, since their huristics are probably based on info from my ISP. Thanks for the link Jenny, via kuro5hin.org. Category linksAdded links to my categories on the left side of the page, but I've got to get them all working correctly. Some pages still have the wrong theme. I wonder if I publish this post to all the pages, will that update them? Also, some of the links don't work and I've got to get that figured out. Follow Uncle Dave's exampleOkay, figured out the h4 deal. Note to self: learn HTML so you don't make any more stupid mistakes. One more change to item template and I think I've got it. Too much h4Screwed that up royal. I messed up the placement of my h4 tags in my item template and everything was big and bold. Wish I was more proficient at HTML editing. Title and Link macroSo, now my title/links should be working. More macros to add. Read this to understand it all. Ads for your weblog? While searching on Google for a solution to my comments and titles problem, I stumbled on something very strange and interesting. When searching for Radio Userland I found that along with my list of hits I found two sponsored links for weblogs. One points to this page on GlennF's weblog. Glenn is clearly playing around, for what purpose I'm not entirely clear. The other is this site. I guess he's trying to publicize his work on open source Python software to emulate the Radio Community Server? Very interesting. Adding a counter for commentsNow there should be a number that denotes the number of comments, usually 0 ( I really need to get some people reading my weblog). This works by adding the following macro <%commentLink%> to the comment text field in the prefs. Comment macroOkay, I've added the comment macro <%commentLink%> to my item template. Should work now. Title and LinkI've turned on titles and links, but they aren't working either. They show up on my desktop page, but only the body of the post shows up on my public site. What's up with that? CommentsComments aren't working, even when I turn them on. Why? Who knows. I'm searching for the anwer to all my problems. Now, I've turned on comments. But, will it work? Test. There should be no comments.
