The worst test matrix I've ever seen
I'm working with ActiveState's Komodo 2.5 release, and I ran into a bit
of trouble trying to debug TCL 8.3 code. Komodo attempted to source a
file with a TCL 8.4 dependency before sourcing my own code ... no big
deal and quickly addressed by folks at ActiveState via their mailing list.
In thinking through what had to happen on the other side of that
exchange, I'm really very impressed by the fact that ActiveState is
shipping an IDE that works on Linux flavors, Solaris, and Windows,
allowing you to debug many versions of PHP, Tcl, Perl, Python and XSLT
locally or remotely. When you consider all the possible permutations
that they would have in their test matrix (multiple versions of Mozilla
runtime, OS's, Languages), it does not seem possible to adequately test
this software. But it seems to work. Anyway, I promise to do better
than damn with faint praise after I've used it for awhile.
