Tablet PC Time!

I just ordered my Table PC.  I ended up choosing the Fujitsu.

I'm off this week so I had a chance to attend a couple of Tablet PC events.  The first was a show-and-tell at work.  Some of the folks in the Tablet PC group set up their building's lobby with a couple of tables and had a number of the different Tablet PCs there for folks to play with.  All of them were cool.  But the one that best fit what I was looking for was the Fujitsu.  I really liked the look and the feel of it in my hands.  In addition, it is based on the Pentium (as opposed to the Transmeta CPU).  It felt more responsive to me than the models that use the Transmeta.

I asked some of the Tablet PC folks about the NEC since I heard it was one of the ones that was going to be innovative and different (the other one talked about in those terms was the HP/Compac hybird type which I did get to play with) but no one seemed to know about it.  I also tried to find some info about it on the web but couldn't find anything.  I would have liked to consider the NEC model but I was just too anxious to get my order in...

This morning, I went to the Seattle area Tablet PC launch (at Meydenbaur Center in Bellevue).  They had some hardware and software vendors set up in the lobby so I got a chance to play with the Fujitsu again.  The Launch itself had some cool demos but I didn't stick around for the breakout sessions after the keynote.  Instead I went to the local CompUSA to see what Tablet PCs they might have there.

They had the Toshiba (I already decided I didn't want to buy a convertible model so that wasn't interesting to me) and the ViewSonic.  Compared to the Fujitsu, the ViewSonic felt somewhat boxy.  CompUSA's web site also shows the Acer but there weren't any Acers at the store I went to.

More about the Tablet PC when I get it.
