Inheritance: Not a Tool for Every Situation
A very cool post from Phil Weber. The cool thing about it for me is that Phil discovered this from his experience in the real world. In my case, I discovered it from reading “Design Patterns Explained” and then going back to the GOF book. I think Naïve object-oriented design practitioners (my former self included) tend to view inheritance as the only component of object-oriented design. It’s a sign of design maturity to use approaches appropriate to the situation (from a palette that contains more than one). It also leads to more robust systems.
