My Favorite Book
Just got done reading (for about the 10th time) Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I first read this book around 1980 and every few years I go back and read it again. The amazing thing is that each time I do I get something different out of it. This time around I was noticing how, although I haven't been aware of it, much of my general approach to life came out of this book. Looking at a situation and not just accepting the popular opinion or conventional view, the idea that when you do work the thing you are working on is yourself, and even my approach to problem solving all came from reading this book.
The first time I read this book I liked it so much I bought 10 copies and gave them to 10 friends for Christmas that year. No one I gave the book to liked it. There was a lesson there too...
