Rory Perry's Weblog Law, technology, and the courts We've been webcasting argument proceedings here at the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia since September 5, 2001. This has been an excellent tool for opening access to the courts. On a typical day of arguments, we get 400-600 user sessions, over 60% of whom stay connected for over an hour. During one recent case of significant statewide interest, we logged over 2,600 user sessions. I'll be posting a longer story soon that explains in detail how to webcast on a low budget. One factor to consider is the cost of bandwidth. With webcasting, the better the stream, and the more sessions logged, the more expensive it for the broadcaster. That's why we've only posted a 26k stream up until now -- to make the information avialable to the largest number of people for the most reasonable cost. 10:57:15 AM [Permanent Link]
