Rory Perry's Weblog Law, technology, and the courts More filings in same-sex marriage case On Friday, another Motion To Intervene was filed in the case of SER LInk v. King, Clerk, etc., which involves a challenge to state marriage laws by four same-sex couples. The latest motion to intervene was filed by several state legislators, with a brief in support outlining why intervention should be granted. Also on Friday, the Court issued two orders that disposed of pending motions in the case. The Court granted a previously-filed motion to intervene filed by Jerry Allen Brace and Steven Clark Morgan. This brings to four the total number of couples involved as party petitioners. The Court also refused a request by the Appalachian Metropolitan Community Church to intervene as a party petitioner, without prejudice to the trustees of the church to file an amicus curiae brief. The Court is scheduled to consider the petition in closed conference on Thursday. The Court will consider outstanding motions at that time as well, including the Motion by the Squirrel Party, U.S.A. to file an amicus curiae brief, and the aforementioned motion to intervene by several state legislators. 3:39:09 PM [Permanent Link]
