Looks like we're scheduled to have a week of sun while I'm out here in California (about 18 degrees C, unusually pleasant for this time of year). My transatlantic flight from Dublin to Los Angeles with Aer Lingus was, I think, the first time I've ever crossed to the West Coast from Europe without once having the pilot turn on the 'fasten seatbelts' sign -- and I've done that route a lot of times over the years.

While here, I'm looking forward to a bit of relaxation with family in Menlo Park (my folks live in an area just up behind the venture capitalists lining Sand Hill Rd!), and a bit of work. Not *too* much work -- I'm planning to attend a Computer History Museum (http://www.computerhistory.org/)talk next week by some of the pioneers of databases (now, that'll separate the geeks from the pretenders. Either you thought, 'Whoa, that sounds excellent' or you fled shrieking from the room). And hope to visit the museum as well.

More anon, as long as my DSL conenction behaves back in Dublin so I can post remotely to the blog.
