Fees rile spam foes. Claiming they helped build a service that was supposed to be free, testers of Cloudmark's spam-blocking system are protesting the finished version, which costs $60 per year. [CNET News.com] ... I've been using ('testing') this product -- which I have found quite good -- for months now. I DO believe in charging for good products and services. I DON'T think that is the right model here, though, with a product in which home users are a central part of the product's development, as they are with Cloudmark's Spamnet. The product becomes more efficient at blocking spam, the more the user base indicates that an email is actually spam. If I were Cloudmark I would continue to offer the consumer product for free and charge corporates for reaping the advantages of having an anti-spam army out there, identifying the junk email to be culled.
