Confirming federal judges - okay, I admit this is a crazy idea: how about we pick really competent judges to serve in the federal judiciary?  High up on the litmus test is scholarship, intellect and knowledge of the law.  Low down is ideology.  But, if you have particular ideology and admit it you get extra points.  I don't like the views espoused by Mike McConnell, but I admit he's qualified (actually "over-qualified").  So he should be a judge.  And the knee-jerk reaction of most liberals (who know he is highly qualified) was to endorse him, but then once they realized how conservative he was they wish they hadn't.  What hypocrisy!  And what an unintentional indictment of the confirmation process. Politics is 80% and legal acumen is 20%.  Maybe this recommendation for changing the confirmation process is the way to go.  The current one could hardly get worse.

Just wondering - Yeah, I have always wanted to know this, and I was wondering about this too.
