NASA Plans Space Commute Craft. Looking for a simpler way to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station, NASA is designing a stripped-down four-seater. Plans for the Orbital Space Plane are on the fast track for completion by 2008. [Wired News]

What?  Did I read that right?  NASA doing something new?!  Can't be.  The Government will NEVER allow for this kind of thing to happen.  Like the article said we should already have a new shuttle fleet in production but it's too exepensive.  Now wait, even this plane thing is gonna cost 2.4 Billion in development and prolly another 20 or 30 by the time we're done.  Now I seem to remember us spending ohh, 90 Billion or so in the first couple months in Iraq, and now Bush wants another 40 Billion or so and it goes on there.  Or maybe the hundred's of billions that are spent on social programs that do NO good whatsoever, they in fact do badly by promoting the idea that the government will be there to help you out always.

I'm sorry people, terror is not going to unite this nation.  The only times we've done anything together as a people was when we were doing something new, exploring.  Well right now we can't even get to the damn base orbiting the planet let alone back to the moon, which in case you forgot we got to 30 freaking years ago.  Seems odd that we really haven't been back to do much there.

On a related note:  Do I believe that the world should do this as a whole right now?  No.  I think the national competition is good, it's what got us out there in the first place.  Let China take a shot, and India, and Japan, and whoever else wants to explore the heavens and put people on new worlds.  After the industry is matured then we'll talk about this one world thing.  All I know is that whoever puts a colony on the Moon or Mars first needs to call me cause I'll be first in line to live there.  Anything to get away from these whiney government's and their not so subdued religious overtones.
