Here I sit - at the start of the Northern Lights Fantasy Baseball League draft. I'm going to blog the draft! Should be fun - hang on while I open up a brewski!
AH - an IPA and baseball. Life doesn't get any better.
First pick of the draft: Hank Blalock to My Boys of Summer.
Big argument - Mike isn't here. So do we let Rick pick for him. Consensus is a reluctant yes. But after this no way. He gets scrubbinies after the draft. So The Titanic picks Todd Walker.
My pick (The Arctic Wool Sox!) -Ishii - yey!!
Now to plot my next pick...
Oooh - The Bandito takes Carlos Pena - I'm so jealous...
Oooh - and the Wool Sox take with their second pick - Appier. I'm not sure about this one - I probably should have taken the Marlins new closer - Looper.
Oops- Looper went to Shoot Schott...
Ooops got behind doing research:
3rd pick was Strickland of Montreal
4th pick Danys Baez (I'm super pleased with this one)
5th and final pick of the regular draft - Scott Schoenwise of Anaheim a reasonable pick.
Now for reserves - I just saw that Jermain Dye went on the DL so yet another regular I have to draft for...
First reserve I drafted - Shinjo - OF for SF.
I'm getting a little pooped - it's after my bedtime - 9:00 PM. However, the draft is scooting right along. We only have three rounds to go. A record for us!
My reserve picks after Shinjo:
Terry Adams, Mark Grace, Jon Rauch, Esteban German, Tim Spoonyberger, Wes Helms, and Cody Ross. The guys gave me quite a bit of shit over Cody - he's not projected to reach the majors until 2004. But I want to do some long term planning. Just typing all this out makes me realize that I don't need anymore pitchers!
Just drafted Omar Infante - another youngster...SS for Detroit.
One more round to go!
And with my final pick what did I take but another pitcher - Ted Lilly of the Yankees. Well I'm not overwhelmed with joy with team but it's something to build with.
Peter will be happy - I don't have a single Red Sox player on my team. When ever I have a Red Soxer, they have the worst year they've ever had or they get greviously injured. For example, last year I had Nomar Garciaparra and Derek Lowe.
