Well I've made it through the days news, views and such with some contact via IM with the outside world. A noon time walk and my day is about complete. My recent 48th birthday has caused me to reflect on my current path and the future. Needless to say my retirement plans hace taken a 10% hit it the last month and I am beginning to hope that Mr. President will just keep quiet about the whole thing. Let the market right itself, you're not helping.
The excellent discourse of a Canadian about the merit of American society, gives me hope. If someone outside this montage can see hope, then far be it from me to cast doubt. I've seen a little of the world and don't mind saying that as bad as we do it, we do it as good, or better, than any I've seen. Yet the bane of Capitalism and Democracy together is that it breeds a kind of person that is driven to seek money and power, not necessarily in that order. Either of those goals are not bad as a goal, until the person trying to achieve them decides to take a less than legal path to get to it. This is NOT love and it is NOT war and it is NOT a professional sport, so not everything is fair.
A lot of ink and bits have already poured out over the WorldCom and Enron et al thing. I've got no blinding insight there, it just seems that too much emphasis is on getting what we want, rather than want what we've got. Of course that's an old phrase, but it can't be said much better. I know for myself that when I do what I can to help others is when I'm really feeling my best. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong (apologies to Dennis Miller).
Think I'll go feel good for awhile.
