Now I know why I was getting all those Google hits for "Amiri Baraka WTC poem" despite the fact that I had not heard anything like a WTC poem in his Saturday or Sunday performances at the Dodge Poetry Festival.
Well, this is America, and anyone is free to speak their views, spiteful as they may be. I was somewhat surprised to find that LeRoi Jones had followed Gerald Stern as NJ Poet "Low-rate", as he likes to call it, but truly, he is a man who knows how to craft words, and this is a position for the man’s poetic skill, not his politics.
But really, it brings up the question again, Do Poets Matter? Some people like to think so. (Sorry about the Google caching link... link rot at the Texas Mercury).
Whoops, earlier coverage of the Baraka incident. It was one of the Friday readings, when mostly teachers were there, I think. Thursday, with the schoolchildren bussed in, would not have been good.
