A solution (in progress) for deep quotability in hypertext (aka granular addressability).

Purple Numbers (PNs) are intended to facilitate deep quotability (granular addressability) in documents. And in fact, as currently implemented (attached to HIDs or NIDs), they do allow a fine-grained addressing that is not otherwise generally available.

PNs can be created prior to publication, wherein the requisite markup is inserted in the source document -- added manually or automatically (e.g., Purple)

However, while "fine-grained", they currently do not support quotation in any part. This does not diminish the great utility of the current solutions.

There are many use cases where the current solutions satisfy user requirements.
