I've been reading Dr. Dobbs Journal recently; the subscription was pretty cheap with the "professional discount". It's the first time I've read a computer print magazine in a long time.
I think what the computer industry needs is a printed version of Utne Reader. Imagine a magazine that was just totally excellent articles about random computer-related topics. I care more about reading excellent articles than reading "directly applicable to my day at work" material. (Interesting: most of the stuff I thought of off the top of my head was C/C++ related, yet, I haven't written a line of that in like 6+ months.)
Making the magazine printed, and, say, every other month, would really raise the bar for what goes in it.
