BLiXThe next time you're looking to waste some time, try Shockwave.com. I introduced Andrea to a game on the site [Collapse] and I haven't heard from her since. I also have my own addiction there [BLiX]. There are games for all appetites, including action, 3D, puzzles and multiplayer. But just remember, once in it's hard to get out again. These games are good.

A reprint of Max Salazar's article "Salsa Origins" as originally published in the November 1991 issue of Latin Beat Magazine [SalsaRoots]. This article puts the origin of the term "salsa" as referring to the music as far back as the early 1960's. I doubt this article will be the last word on this topic.

In the 1920s, penicillin was discovered. By the 1950s, staphylcoccus aureus, a deadly bacteria, had become resistant to it. Since then, new antibiotics have become available, but doctors have always known that the bacteria would eventually become resistant to these. In April, doctors discovered a strain of staph aureus that is totally resistant to vancomycin, the antibiotic of last resort against it [Detroit Free Press].

Some experts postulate that eventually, so many bacteria will develop resistance that antibiotics won't work and hospitals will be filled with people dying from infections, as they were in the 1920s.

In our attempt to completely vanquish bacteria, we may be shooting ourselves in the foot. Antibiotics are being overused, creating a strong selection pressure for bacteria that are immune to antibiotics. In the end, the very use of antibiotics is what creates bacteria that cannot be killed using them [via MetaFilter].
