Mussels muscle in on arthritis in dogs Dogs have a new friend to help combat the development of arthritis: the Green Lipped Mussel. Scientists have developed a dog food which includes an extract of the Green Lipped Mussel and has proven effective in treating arthritis in dogs.
"Raw green mussels are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which have strong anti- inflammatory properties." Prior to the discovery of the extract, treatment of arthritis in dogs usually included expensive daily doses of anti-inflamatory drugs, which had adverse side effects in some dogs.
