Inhumane's  'Humane Society' secrets revealed TN Hidden cameras revealed the abuse, the filth, and the killers...

'It's a story of mismanagement, potential abuse, and death. A NewsChannel 9 investigation reveals what two employees say the Humane Society doesn't want you to see.
They're supposed to champion animal rights. The Humane Society collects a !$1 million in taxpayer money each year. They're supposed to help find a new beginning for thousands of cats and dogs. Instead, it's often the end...' [WTVC]

Wild dogs terrorize US town NC Neighborhoods in Durham, North Carolina, are unhappy about wild dogs running loose. One citizen has organized a task force to find a solution after her cat was killed by wild dogs:

A person doesn't stand a chance against a pack of dogs, they’re just teeth and claws. A lot of those dogs aren't wild, they are actually owned dogs and they are just let loose to roam and then they pack up with other dogs. Their behavior totally changes. They turn into essentially a pack of wolves. [News 14 Carolina] (Where is Animal Control?)

Index of famous dogs, cats and critters A website devoted to indexing all the famous dogs, cats and critters: originally designed as a guide for naming pets (okay, my pets), the indexes of famous animals have grown into a pretty hefty reference material, boasting over 4,000 names. Cat lover have plenty to purr about here too.

Canine vaccination guidelines issued The American Animal Hospital Association's (AAHA) 14-member taskforce 'recommends that the adult dog receive rabies; canine parvovirus vaccine; canine adenovirus-2 (hepatitis vaccine); and distemper vaccines every three years. Dubbed a 'paradigm shift'  in vaccination protocol, the bottom line is: not all vaccines should be administered with equal frequency.'  [DVM Magazine] Vaccines have some small risk of adverse reaction. Our dog threw up after his last one (heart worm prevention shot) and was sick for two days after his parvovirus vaccine (a cocktail of  vaccines in one injection). Nevertheless, we regard canine vaccinations as a necessary evil.

Chow rescued from icy death... rescuers fall through ice IL 'A wayward pooch on the frozen Rock River was saved by emergency workers Thursday morning, but only after some of them fell through the ice. Everyone, including the dog, was OK...' The dog survived in the water for at least half an hour before getting pulled to shore, and suffered no apparent harm, pending an exam by a veterinarian.  [Rockford Register Star]
Crufts (world's largest dog show) barks to life UK Crufts 2003 barked into life with more than 6,000 dogs and 30,000 visitors  in Birmingham', but not without controversy.
'Animal welfare minister Elliot Morley is determined to stamp out the practice [tail-docking] but has given some leeway to gundogs because of the injuries they may incur when flushing out birds.'  Tails make gundogs vulnerable to fired gunshots.  [Shropshire Star News] Related: Money is no object, Top dogs travel to Crufts

Joe Jenett had to say goodbye to his other cat, BamBam. 'As she lay there, gasping for air, it dawned on me I'd been here before, reminded that life's not always fair.  A new month, another goodbye...'  Joe Jenett: Cool Stop (Joe did all the cool programming of Dog News.)

Without our pets, the world is a colder place, especially now.
