Lyme disease, a hidden threat to dogs. In the DC area, many of us take our dogs to Sligo Creek Park, which could readily be renamed "Deer Tick Haven." If you take your dog to Sligo Creek Parkway, be prepared to pull deer ticks off your dog; I did, frequently, even though I used the highest quality brand of tick/flea/killoff on my dog. Yet, it still happened -- the deer ticks would always snuggle in on a fluffly part of his face. Luckily, I had him vacinated with a pet Lyme disease vaccine. Since Lyme disease can immobilize your dog, it's better to prevent it in the first place...
