John Robb Hopes He's Wrong (Me Too)
John Robb, an Air Force veteran and the president of Userland Software, on the potential pitfalls ahead in the war: "It's really a crappy situation." He worries that Baghdad will be like Grozny, and that this war is part of an unworkable strategy. He says he'd like to be proven wrong, but his case sounds plausible. I don't know that I buy his analysis on Saddam (not) taking Saudi Arabia--but a good discussion ensues in the comments box.
Edwards Watch
John Edwards draws protestors in his home state, as reported by the mainstream press and a weblogger (the latter via Eric Muller). Recently a big NC Dem fumed to me that Edwards has all but punted away the Dem's hard-won Senate seat by focusing on what may be a quixotic presidential campaign...but now another big booster tells me that the White House run is building Edwards' name recognition and, most important, his state-wide organization in ways that will help him to retain the seat if his Presidential campaign falters.
No Injuries Beyond A Bruised Ego
The storm that paralyzed Denver merely brought plenty of fresh snow to Snowmass. We had a great family trip, although I slightly injured my ego trying to keep up with an eleven-year-old. On Saturday, Elijah and I hiked up past the Elk Camp lift to a summit with 360-degree views, then went down a run called Long Shot that drops more than 3,000 vertical feet and covers over 3 miles. Then he made me ski the bumps under the Elk Camp and High Alpine lifts. Later, the four of us met Lisa's sister Suzanne and her family for dinner at the Woody Creek Tavern, where we watched Gonzaga almost beat Arizona in the NCAA tourney. Easy flights home yesterday, back to school this morning...and now its crunchtime on another 6,000 word monster for the Mad Genius.
