Silflay Hraka: “Berman’s name on this bill is something less than a surprise. He’s been wholly owned by Hollywood for a while now.”

frograbbitmonkey: “…the previous hour and a half of technicolor gore, psychological deterioration, and suspense was rendered pointless. I will still watch the sequel, however, because I’m a sucker like that.”

Wow – look at all the ads this guy sells for his local news weblog/newspaper in Canada. I found him in this article in OJR, which I found via JD Lasica. Local blogging is the next big thing, or at least one of the next big things. As the entry below this one demonstrates, hometown news is breaking online all the time.

Funding Woes Could Put Genomics Project On Hold

Dennis Barry, CEO of the Moses Cone Health System, says he remains hopeful that the Guilford Genomic Medicine Project will get funded this summer, despite this week’s setback in the Senate. But what if no money is forthcoming? What would that mean for the project?

“If they come back with no money, we will keep trying to get it, but the project wouldn’t start right away,” Barry told me on the phone this morning. “If they came back with a smaller amount [than the $4 million target], we would start, but the impact on what we could do is unclear --  we’d have to go back to the drawing board.”

Barry said that additional funds for the project are included in the Medicare bill currently under consideration, a fact that didn’t come out at Monday’s press conference. That money would be used for genotyping equipment, much of which would be housed at Duke.

This would be an excellent time for North Carolinians to contact John Edwards and Liddy Dole to voice support for this project.
