"The emotional bond Bush established with Americans in the fall of 2001 is unlike any relationship between president and populace since the days of FDR."

My newspaper column discusses the difficulty of beating Bush, and the right and wrong way to go about it.

"(C)riticism of the invasion of Iraq is quickly approaching its sell-by date as a campaign issue...The emotion the Democrats need to stimulate is hope. Americans have had a very difficult few years, and we’re ready for some optimism."

I know the optimistic Democrat meme has been picking up strength in the last few days -- so I'll note that print deadlines force me to file this column on Tuesday...
