The Feds want to help Greensboro lower its murder rate, which last year hit an all-time high.

Thanks but no thanks, say local officials, who argue that our crime problems aren't that bad. They are also worried that putting Greensboro on a list of dangerous cities with the likes of LA, Philly, and Miami will hurt our image.

As opposed to all those murders, which are a great advertisment for our town.

Maybe we should run with this as part of our attempt to rebrand ourselves. How's "Greensboro: Badder than Detroit" for a catchy slogan?

N&R: "Greensboro was chosen despite three straight years of declining overall violent crime and a violent crime rate that's lower than Charlotte, Durham, Winston-Salem and Fayetteville."

But we've got the bodycount, baybee. Says Roarke Wright, head of the local office of the BATF, which will be working with city cops as part of the program, "Greensboro's homicide rate was crazy last year."

Somehow the N&R article manages to tie this story to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, allegedly another blow to Greensboro's image. "Having this in conjunction certainly is not good timing from a public relations perspective," Mayor Keith Holliday told the paper.

Way to focus on the issues, big guy. Dead people in the streets then, dead people in the streets now...and it's a PR problem. That's the ticket.

Hot chicks with guns is the new design theme over at frograbbitmonkey.

That's not frm in the picture, by the way. Her hair is darker. But you should still go to her yard sale tomorrow if you want to avoid any trouble. She's also accepting donations at her blog for her upcoming move to Chicago, at which point she will cease being Greensboro's coolest blogger and become Chicago's coolest blogging law student.

My wife (also not pictured) is actually a pretty good skeet-shooter, even with a 12 gauge that is a bit heavy for her. There is something sexy about women with guns.

Dr. Freud to the metaphor room, stat.
