•••What Book of the Bible are You?

You are Proverbs

You are Proverbs.

Weird thing is, there were several of the questions I had a hard time picking among the several answers. My second time through, I was Revelation. Go figger.

•••Conventional Wisdom and Lack Thereof

Finally, things settle down again and I can resume my routine. Last week marked the Nebraska District LCMS convention in Seward, Nebraska. Now that I'm a parish pastor, I am likewise required to sit in a folding chair for about 5 hours at a time there on the convention floor, in front of my little electronic voting box.

WHEREAS, folding chairs are exceedingly uncomfortable after an hour of sitting; and

WHEREAS, human beings require coffee, soft-drinks, water fountains and restrooms on a regular basis; and

WHEREAS, according to every keynote speaker's favorite PowerPoint slides, almost 65% of our church membership are aged 50 and over; and

WHEREAS, this is even more certainly true of pastoral and congregational delegates to conventions; and

WHEREAS, no number of reports and skits and slides and overtures is worthy of such unrelenting sedentary consideration; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that as God himself is merciful, so also should we schedule stinking breaks every two (2) hours or so at the minimum; and be it further

RESOLVED, that we take such breaks in order to maintain our polite Christian sensibilities; and be it finally

RESOLVED, that the Nebraska District LCMS in convention physically strap every officer and staff member of the District who refuses to do such right there in their beloved chairs while we go ahead and enjoy said breaks.

All in favor, say "Aye."
