A big test of the validity and integrity of the Pawlenty administration will be the privitization of state functions. Each step will have to be examined to see if it truly saves the state money and is not just a way to hand off fat state contracts to friendly business people. The first fight over this has been the government printing office. Printcomm. Their web site has been removed. Here is the cache on google. Our unions have won a temporary restraining order to block the closing of this office because of a law that says state employees must be used if they are available. We get notices every other day saying "no more printcomm" ... "no wait, use printcomm ... for now" Here is the Star Tribune article. Here is a copy and paste because the Strib will soon remove it from their web site. The administration will target this law asap. Should we choose this as the place to stand and fight? I don't know if printcomm is cheaper or more expensive. I don't know if they do good work. I will ask everyone around here about their experiences with printcomm.  So far so good.
