A thought came to me in the shower yesterday:
A cynical person has been disappointed and now thinks himself genius because he figured out that 90 percent of everything is bullshit and 90 percent of people are selfish bastards. The figures aren't that high and the cynical person didn't choose wisely when he adopted his beliefs in the things that eventually disappointed them. You made a mistake, got disappointed and now you have to get over it and stop burdening the rest of the world with your cynicism.
The alternative view is that the cynical person was disappointed too early in life, as a child who got disappointed immediately by the people who were supposed to be supporting him. In that case, maybe they should work on recognizing that and remove themselves from the discourse when their damage colors their judgment.
