Clearance and Copyright For Indie Moviemakers
END OF THE CENTURY: no rights to the music!. The sad, dumb story of END OF THE CENTURY, a highly-praised documentary about The Ramones made by Michael Gramaglia and Jim Fields. The problem is entirely of their own making: they made a movie about a band without getting rights or releases for the interviews, performances, footage, or music. A rule of thumb: Get and use Michael Donaldson's Clearance & Copyright: Everything the Independent Filmmaker Needs to Know. [greg.org] [Cinema Minima]

From Jon Schull
In December 2002 I created a book about numbers for little children (and grownups).
I'm no mathematician, but I tried to introduce some non-trivial mathematical
concepts in a way that might be interesting and entertaining and silly!
I've now put it online at  http://it.rit.edu/~jis/gallery/numbers

Theremin Vibes
A picture named sawmanlex_sm.jpg The Theremin.

Besides looking like no other instrument, the theremin is unique in that it is played without being touched. Two antennas protrude from the theremin - one controlling pitch, and the other controlling volume. As a hand approaches the vertical antenna, the pitch gets higher. Approaching the horizontal antenna makes the volume softer. Because there is no physical contact with the instrument, playing the theremin requires precise skill and perfect pitch. [The Cartoonist]

Tiki Vibes
Critiki.

Critiki is a marvelous new compendium of links, photos, maps, addresses, and reviews of tiki-related locations around the globe. But there's a catch: you have to register and answer a short quiz to fully utilize the site, and to do that you must own a copy of James Teitelbaum's book, Tiki Road Trip (owning this should be a no-brainer if you're already an aficionado).
