UK Policy Follows the US Down the Misguided Road of Civil Forfeitures
UK asset seizure law now active. The UK's new asset seizure law has come into effect. The law allows police to seize assets they believe are the proceeds of a crime, even when there is no criminal conviction . The police say this new legislation will target everyone from the "Mr Bigs" to small-time crooks. Forces will be able to probe money laundering more vigorously,as they no longer have to prove investigations are directly linked to a particular crime. [...] A civil recovery... [vigilant.tv]
