By definition, it seems to me that diaries, not dairies, should be private, i.e. not online. . .so this shit just frightens me. . .diaries are for things like "Michele got knocked up by Tommy and I just couldn't be happier, she's such a bitch" or "I went to the clinic today and found out that Billy gave me the clap". . .and that kind of thing really isn't for public consumption, now is it?. . .so is diaryland.com just trying to cash in on the blog phenomenon? If not, I just think its premises need to be reevaluated. . . 9:45:43 PM ![]() |
So at some point tonight, I got a phone call from a telemarket research firm. . .this is different from telemarketing, though I got one of those tonight too (it's amazing how when you get rid of caller ID, your ratio of answered calls to telemarketer calls goes way up). . .basically this poor girl was calling me up with a 10 minute survey trying to get information on electric deregulation in Texas. . .I usually talk to these people because I did market research once and it scarred me for life. . .it was truly the worst job I've ever had. . . When I lived in Amarillo, I got a job making $7.00 an hour doing market research which, at the time for a 20 year old psychology student, was pretty damn good money. . .they really sold you on all the extra money you could make like some nights we'd have bonus nights where if you exceeded your number of surveys, you made extra money, or because men were always less likely to finish the survey, some nights you got extra money for getting completed male surveys. . . To give you some idea of how much suck this job entailed, the survey I was working on averaged 26 minutes. . .you think life sucks when telemarketers call right when you're about to eat dinner, try keeping someone on the phone for 26 minutes talking about why they choose the Chicago Tribune over the Northwest Herald. . . Regardless, I have two memories of this job that really stick out. . .one, I got this student at Northwestern on the phone one night and we talked for like 2 hours. . .this is a big deal because my boss was always walking around logging into people's calls to make sure they weren't calling Grandma or whatever. . .anyway, I think I had a crush on that girl, even took her phone number home with me. . .thought it would be a little psycho to call her though. . .heh. . .and the second memory was the day I walked into work, looked at my desk, and literally gagged because I hated the job so much. . .basically we read from a script on a computer screen and logged the answers that people gave us. . .on top of boring, it makes you look stupid because you have to ask questions like "Is your phone number still (214)555-1212?" when you just called it? Like what fucktard changed their phone number since you called? And people don't know that you are required to ask these stupid questions so they make fun of you. . .or worse, hang up on you which means you have to stay longer to fill your quota. . .
So to make a long story longer, if you get one of these poor people on the line (once again, not telemarketers, I feel sort of sorry for them but nothing like poor market research people), think about taking the time to do their little survey. . .it's a really crappy job. . . |

I've found the cure for my blogging block. . .that rocks. . .if you have a blog, or even if you don't, go get yourself a random apathetic journal entry. . . 9:04:05 PM ![]() |

So maybe I should be thankful no one reads and/or comments on this blog. . .after reading the comments of one of Acidman's readers, I'm pretty thankful. . .the whole thing about a hypodermic needle, tender parts of the anatomy, and a blue throbber definitely make me glad I'm 30 though. . .shit man, you've got a better sex drive than I've got. . . 8:38:48 PM ![]() |
So when I first read this article about Microsoft's earnings this quarter, I thought maybe it was a signe of an improving economy, given that they beat expectations by $.02. . .However this statemtent made me think otherwise:
Seems kind of ridiculous to me that unearned revenue can be counted on this quarter's earnings. . .but then, I thought what Enron and Worldcom did was ridiculous too. . .silly me. . . |
Gourd reveals roots of religion. . .an artifact was found in a looted Peruvian cemetary with a deity inscribed on it, leading scientists to suppose that religious worship happened a millenium sooner than was once thought. . . 8:05:29 PM ![]() |
So I got my packet from the marathon today. . .it's all starting to feel a great deal like reality with each passing day. . .right now, I can't imagine what it's like to run 26 miles, 385 yards but hopefully, in 46 days I'll find out. I'm ramping back up with 30 miles this week, followed by god knows how many miles next week but I'm guessing close to 40. That two weeks off with the torn quad really set me back but hopefully not to the point of not being able to finish the race. . .this is the definition of bore blogging I think. . . 8:00:27 PM ![]() |
