Governor Roy Barnes

Since 1999 I've lived in the People's Republic of Georgia under the benevolent auspices of Governor Roy. Roy's not a bad guy -- he's just a lifelong politician, and proud of it. From Barnes' own biography:
Barnes is a lifelong legislator, lawyer, and businessman.

Looks like Roy may be on his way out. I didn't vote for his challenger and I don't know if he'll be better or worse. But anytime we can get a lifelong politician out of office it's a good thing.

Testing the googleTitleSearch macro. Still fiddling with templates after my RCS-switch fiasco. This macro adds the See also: text at the after each post when added to the Item Template. Instructions on Jake's Macros page.

Incumbents Take Note! Tara Sue Means Business

I hope these figures hold or go higher. It would be fantastic for Tara Sue to get 10 percent of the final vote. Even Howard Coble will be forced to take note. 10 percent is more than enough to make a difference in a tight election, and that Tara Sue did it with almost no campaign war chest says a lot about the power of the Internet (something Coble has never deigned to use yet still feels qualified to regulate.)

Almost double figures!.

Tara Sue Grubb is getting 9 percent of the vote. Hey, that's a load more than zero. It means almost 1 in 10 voted for her. I call that a major victory.

IdeaTools North America

IdeaTools is indeed an impressive suite of CMS tools. It's the first suite I've seen that appears to match Conversant in features and functionality. The e-commerce function is something I really haven't seen anywhere else. Paolo's template doesn't render well in my favorite browser (Opera), but that's a nit. Back in July Paolo announced a partnership with Scott Johnson (FuzzyGroup) to become evectors North America. I can see this group making some powerful business solutions.

You know a good idea when you see one.

» Paolo's showing off IdeaTools:

  • Stories and news
  • Product catalog and shopping basket
  • Events management
  • Discussion group
  • Rss News Aggregator
  • Customer/Contents profiling
  • Search engine

and that's just for starters.  Definitely worth taking a look.

Very cool 24 tonight! Keifer Sutherland must love playing Jack Bower.

AOL and Free Speech

It appears the Virginia Supreme Court has dealt the First Amendment another setback. This looks like one of those sticky-wicket situations of trying to apply narrow, local laws across the virtual space-time of the Internet. I don't blame the Va Supremes for bowing out. We can only hope AOL takes it to the US Supremes and we get some support for the First Amendment -- it's suffered enough marginalization already in the guise of Homeland Security.

Court denies AOL's attempt to protect user identity. Case could shape how free speech is perceived online [InfoWorld: Top News]

Best Practices for RFP Management

Executing an RFP from a project management perspective.
Advice for a Request for Proposal (RFP). James E. Powell has written a detailed article on running a Request for Proposal (RFP). To quote: A Request for Proposal (RFP) is a simple concept, but its execution can be anything but. On the surface, an RFP is simply... [Column Two]
