Very successful Economics and Stocks for Teachers class

Note my CEMEX hat from Beate Melten, the Investor Relations person from CEMEX. CEMEX was a sponsor of the Alaska Chapter NAIC Investors Fair last weekend.

I had a great group of 28 teachers. They worked hard and asked great questions. We had a good time learning and laughing together. I used Stock Market Investing Made E-Z as the text.

Below are some of their anonymous responses to the written question, "What changes have occurred in your thinking?"

"Before, I felt that it would be difficult to get to know about stocks and the market. Now, I'm excited to explore the market and invest as an individual--Thanks to you and your worksheet."

"The biggest change is that I realize there is an enormous need to research stocks before you invest. Before this class I was under the belief that just buying a household name type of stock, whenever, could make you money if you held on to it long enough. Working the spreadsheets and numbers has given me an entirely different thought process on how to begin and maintain stock investments."

". . . After working on the worksheet you have given us, I realize that I really could own my own stock based on a mathematical figure. My choice can be an educated one instead of a guess. This class has really opened my eyes to the possibilities offered by investing in stocks."

". . . Finally, I have come to see that making decisions about a stock based on fact instead of emotion is not only possible, but necessary to be successful. Thanks so much."

". . . Before this class, investing in a single stock seemed to be for people who were on a different financial level than I was. You were able to explain these basics in a way that even I am excited about trying my hand in the market."

No wonder I enjoyed teaching the class! Below---part of the class involved in cooperative learning as they relate six economic principles to public corporations, stock ownership, and the stock market.
