Goodby, Jim.
Jim Parsons passed away this afternoon. He recently stated, "Anchorage is my family."
For the 39 years I have lived in Anchorage, Jim Parsons has woven his way in and out of my life and the life of the Anchorage community. He was an active participant in the Concert Association when I joined in 1965. For years he was, among other things, house manager at the Concert Association concerts at West High School; I took tickets and passed out programs while he kept the crowd in line. All of these years he has been an active, vital member of its board.
He sang in the Community Chorus when I was there. He continued to sing and sang in their most recent concert.
He has been president of the Alaska World Affairs Council and on the board of the National World Affairs Council. Just two months ago, the end of January, he was in D.C. with us attending the National World Affairs Council conference. He was as dapper and cordial as ever. And now, two months later he is gone.
He has been president of my community council and carefully monitered what went on in the University Community Council area.
Jim, what a wonderful example you have been for living life to the fullest and making Anchorage a better place in so many, many little ways. You have always given unselfishly of yourself, your time, and your talents.
There will be singing and music where ever you go.
Goodby, GOD.
